Google tests out package tracking directly in search – They are testing an early adopter program that allows shipping companies such as FedEx, DHL, UPS, USPS and others to integrate their tracking data with the search company. This means that it would allow Google search engine to show the status of customers’ package directly within search, rather than showing a link to go to the shipper’s website to check the status.

Google ads beta tests explanations feature – Google has rolled out a new beta feature that is called ‘explanations’. So what is Explanations? Well this gives you clear insights into large changes within your Google ads account performance. They mention that this is designed to help you with understanding why your performance changes is critical when optimising a campaign, which makes it easy for you to spend time focusing on optimisation rather than investigating performance issues. Below are some of what the explanations feature can show you:

  • Budget allocation – This is how spreading your budget across multiple entities may have affected the performance of other entities.
  • Targeting changes – This is how changes to location & keywords targeting, keyword status, and adding/removing an audience may affect performance.
  • Change history – This is how changes to your account may have affected your account’s performance.  
  • Budget exhaustion rate – This is how changing your average cost-per-click may have caused your budget to run out either quicker or slower than usual. 
  • Bid Modifier changes – This is how changes to your device bid modifier, location bid modifier, demographic bid modifier, and audience bid modifier may have affected performance.

Google tests local service ads for realtors – The search giant is testing local service ads for realtors. So for real estate, on the local service ads it comes up on the carousel and takes you into the local service ads interface. You can find local realtors to help you either sell your home or buy a new one. The local services ads can help you connect with people who search on Google for the services you offer and will show up for customers within your area.

Cost & value determined in core ranking improvements – A spokesman from Bing has mentioned on social media that every time they evaluate a ranking improvement, they look at the trade-off between cost and value. Furthermore, they mention this discussion is not always a fun topic but it is a necessary one and that scale and operating cost are often the most overlooked characteristics of a general web search engine.
