Google doodle honors Katsuko Saruhashi who is the first woman elected to Science Council of Japan

On Thursday March 22, Google doodle honoured Katsuko Saruhashi on what would have been the geochemist’s 98th birthday as she was famous in her field of geochemistry. Katsuko spent much of her career advocating for the advancement of female scientists. They have leads to a search for Katsuko Saruhashi that is posted on Google’s US and Japan home pages, along with a number of its other international pages.

It was said that Katsuko was deeply committed to inspiring young women to study science. In 1981 she established the Saruhashi Prize which recognizes female scientists for distinguished research in natural sciences.

Google Doodle mentions that Saruhashi was the first woman to earn a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Tokyo. Also the first woman honored with the Miyake Prize for geochemistry and the first woman named to the Science Council of Japan.

According to Google, Katsuko was the first scientist to accurately measure the concentration of carbonic acid in water that her work led to the Saruhashi’s Table methodology, which is used by oceanographers worldwide now. Kastsuko’s research on ‘the impact of radioactive fallout on the world’s oceans’ has resulted in restrictions around oceanic nuclear experiments.

Google My Business is rolling out a dashboard for multiple listings

Having announced their new Google My Business back in November 2017, Google are now slowly rolling out the new dashboard. Although some people have had the new dashboard for their account, it seems to be clear that they are rolling it out to more people now.

Below are a few features that you will see in the new dashboard, according to Google:

  • Google users will no longer need to switch between list and card view within their dashboard as all users, whether they are large or small will be using the same interface
  • Google My Business dashboard will be much easier to navigate that will allow you to click into a listing and edit within the same window
  • Some features such as posts and insights will be more easily accessible, which will be displayed on the side navigation panel of the main page
  • When adding more listings, it will no longer impact the loading speed of the page
