Google Search ‘find places through reviews’ – Google has been testing or even slowly rolling out a new local search feature in the main web search results named ‘Find places through reviews.’ This means that Google will show a review carousel for select local businesses, matching your query in this web search feature. There has been chatter and screenshots shared on social media by other users.

Google auto knowledge panel adds green font for hybrid & electric cars – Google Search now has a knowledge panel for automobile and car related searches. So if you search for a car where there is an electric and/or hybrid option available, Google will then say “hybrid available” and put that font in green.

Google auto-selects background colours for search result snippet images – Recently Google has been auto-selecting background colours that is not just for image search results and shading Google shopping Ads but also for images added to the search result snippets in Google Search. Users have shared screenshots on social media with a couple examples that shows how Google is taking an image with maybe a light grey background and then replacing it with a green background.

Google is testing ‘Things to do’ overlay over search results – Google has been testing a new user interface for the “Things to do” carousel. So within the testing fase, Google has been overlaying the results on top of the search results, instead of taking you into a new page and set of search results. At this time I cannot replicate this but users have been chatting about this and showing the ‘Things to do’ carousel in pop up mode with a video of it in action.

Google Ads diagnostic insights is now on overview page – Google Ads has now added the diagnostic insights on the Insights and Overview page of the ad console. The diagnostic insights will help you identify common reasons why your campaign may not be serving or getting conversions. The search giant mentions that they added this because it can be difficult to identify and troubleshoot these issues in a timely fashion. The diagnostic insights will highlight when a given campaign’s ads are not running due to all ad groups being paused, account suspensions, or low Ad Strength, among other diagnostic checks.

After you submit a campaign, the diagnostic insights is an easy way to see where you are at in the campaign serving process. Furthermore, they can automatically identify issues that range from ad policy, billing, budget, bids, and more. You can also click on “Show all campaign diagnostics” which gives you a more detailed breakdown for the following:

  • Account status
  • Billing status
  • Policy review
  • Conversion tracking
  • Campaign budget
  • Bid strategy target
  • Campaign status
  • Ad strength
