Google Update

Google video search results with “question answered in this video” – Google Video results now has a feature that says if the video answers your question. So Google will label video results saying “X question answered in this video.” It also shows you the timeline point in the video where the question was answered.

Signed Exchanges coming to Google desktop search – Google search for desktop will soon support signed exchanges for some sites within the coming weeks. Sites serving different HTML based on the user-agent header (i.e. using dynamic serving) will need to opt out by adding a meta tag to your page.

Signed exchanges (SXG) allow Google Search to prefetch your content while preserving the user’s privacy. So what this means is that both AMP and non-AMP results shown on Google Search may prefetch a few key resources (such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS, images, or fonts) in a privacy-preserving manner, if the associated website supports SXG, Google explained.

The search giant shared a notice about this on the Google Group last weekend mentioning that Google Search is planning to launch SXG support for desktop users and that websites using responsive web design or separate mobile/desktop URLs don’t need to take action. Also, websites using dynamic serving (varying by User-Agent header) will need to annotate their pages as mobile- or desktop-only, as documented.

Bing Update

Microsoft Bing ethical shopping hub is available in the US – Microsoft Bing launched its Ethical Shopping hub in the UK last year. With Earth Day, Microsoft mentions that the Ethical Shopping hub is now available in the US and Canada. Also, Microsoft Bing updated the design of the listings on the shopping search results page.

The main purpose for the Ethical Shopping Hub is to provide consumers and searchers with categories like eco-friendly, upcycled, or fair-trade fashion. Shoppers can also select to browse by ethical fashion brands or products, trending or featured items and even grab the latest headlines about informed fashion choices as well as other planet-friendly news topics, all on one convenient page.

Bing updated the design of the listings on the Shopping search results page. So as an example, if you hover over a listing, then you wll see not only the overall brand rating for the brand, but the eco-friendly criteria it performs well on. This allows you to easily shop in alignment with your values – if a product being vegan is most important to you, for example, or if its not being recycled is a deal-breaker.

Microsoft has also expanded the experience to show up when you search relevant queries on Bing.com. This ensures you can find your way to the Ethical Shopping hub no matter where you are in the Bing ecosystem, from within the Shopping tab or if something sparks your curiosity while you’re searching in general, the company said.
