ChatGPT(AI) and some real uses for SEO pros

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT (a chatbot) are a hot topic at the moment – Google has recently launched its own version called Bard. Chat bots, AI and ChatGPT specifically have been received with mixed reviews, it’s almost like marmite, some love it whilst others hate it. But, there is a middle ground.

If you’re planning to use AI to automate your entire SEO, PPC or even content strategy then you’re going to be disappointed. The tool is exactly that, a tool that needs human intervention to make the output meaningful. It will provide you with content, ideas and even facts, but how you then use the output is what is key.

  • Creating title for blog posts, this can be time consuming so any

  • Keyword ideation – finding alternatives to terms or phrases, but AI won’t give you search volume or any other data.

  • Help with creating metadata – it can get tiresome creating metadata for large websites!

These are just 4 real life user cases that we find useful right now, we’re sure we’ll have more uses for it as we get our head around the tool and what it’s good at and what it’s not.

We don’t think any form of AI tool should be solely relied upon to create good quality content – it’s not very good at adding tone or wrapping the content up to deliver the message as you would. AI tools like ChatGPT lack expertise, experience, and originality – a big no no for Google’s E-E-A-T algorithm. AI content can also be plagiarised, and we know the pitfalls of that! And, there have been examples of Chatbots fabricating facts – there are loads of examples of this on the web.

In summary, AI Chat bots are great as tools, but with most things in SEO they need a human user to decipher the information and optimise it accordingly. AI content isn’t new, old school SEO pros would have come across article spinning many years ago, the tools were time savers, but the output was not useable 95% of the time!
